Abstract

This article synthesizes the findings of a research study focused on the introduction of gamification as an educational strategy in the university setting of Panama City. With the aim of thoroughly exploring the potential effects of this methodology on the motivation and academic performance of university students, in-depth interviews were conducted with faculty members and administrative staff from various educational institutions. The interviews provided insights from experienced professors regarding the integration of gamification into their courses. These professors shared how they designed interactive challenges and playful activities to engage students in the learning process. Preliminary results highlighted an increase in student participation and engagement, as well as improvements in their academic grades. Furthermore, discussions were held on observations regarding the impact of gamification on academic programs from administrative offices. It was emphasized how the introduction of gaming elements fostered collaboration among students and stimulated their interest in learning. Data review and surveys revealed a positive trend in students' perception of this methodology. These in-depth interviews with key members of the university community offered a more comprehensive understanding of the effects of gamification on higher education in Panama. This study contributes to the existing knowledge on innovative pedagogical practices and their impact on the motivation and performance of university students.
