Abstract

About 0.3% of the world's malaria cases occur in the Americas. Overall, the region has achieved significant reductions in the burden of the disease in the period 2000-2020. The incidence of cases fell from 14.1 to 4.6 per 1,000 population at risk. The incidence of mortality fell from 0.8 to 0.3 deaths per 100,000 population at risk. On November 6, a new Day against Malaria in the Americas will be commemorated throughout the continent. The date, established by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), had for 2022 the slogan: "Achieving the goal of zero malaria". The organization believes that the date is an opportunity to increase the participation of various actors in the fight against malaria. This is happening in the midst of a slowdown in the progress achieved over the past decades in Latin America.
